One question we got asked at this year’s fabulous U.K Aware show related to organic textiles. A visitor to our showcase stand was looking for organic fabric by the metre so that she could make her own clothes. Green Fibres who supply a range of organic clothing, household goods and toiletries have a range of natural fabrics which fitted the bill perfectly.

These durable luggage tags are made from re-used juice packs from the Philippines. The packaging comprises non-biodegradable foil and plastic that would otherwise go into landfill sites and incinerators.
They are made by a women’s cooperative, near Manila as part of an environmental project with the aim of ‘cleaning and greening’ the local neighbourhood.

One enquiry we had at the U.K Aware event was from a lady looking for organic textiles. We have searched the net and found a range of sustainable fabrics at Harlands. They have a selection of hempsilks, hemp cottons and organic wool. Their range is a great starting point for anyone looking for more sustainable fabrics.

Whilst at the Earth Day event at Deepdale Farm a nice lady called Ann stopped to chat and asked us if we knew anywhere that stocked organic yarn for weaving. Never wanting to shy away from a challenge we set to work to find some eco friendly yarn for her.
We found a lovely website called Rainbow Silks which stocks Lion Brand organic cotton yarn and some organic cornish wool too.

Q. I am looking for biodegradable glue for use with paper, cards etc? David
A. You could try a U.K based company called Eco-Crafts, they have a glue which is solvent and acid free. For a truly biodegradable glue you could make an old fashioned solution made from flour and water.
